Description

EV-FL-PP is a modular sports surface for basketball, tennis, football, handball, volleyball and badminton, multi-sport courts, play areas and outdoor training zones. The polypropylene resists impact, UV and moisture, does not fade in the sun and stays stable in frost. It absorbs impact, gives good grip and allows lateral movement.

Drainage and safety

The tile is perforated, so rain passes straight through and does not stay on the surface. The court can be used right after rain without slopes or drainage channels. The surface is smooth but not slippery.

Base

The tiles can be laid on a compacted aggregate base instead of asphalt. This costs less, and it avoids the problem of asphalt cracking after a few years, which makes glued, poured or sprayed surfaces uneven. The base is built from crushed stone free of clay and other impurities, compacted in layers to the design thickness and moistened during compaction, with a stone-sand top layer. Before the top layers go in, the area is framed with kerbs set on wet concrete, at least 3 cm above the final compacted layer. The finished base must be even, without dips or waves. Depending on the soil, ground levels and ground water, the contractor decides whether drainage is needed.

Geotextile

Black non-woven geotextile, 150 g/m², is laid over the compacted base. It keeps fine particles from reaching the surface. Under its own weight, the surface presses 1–2 mm into the geotextile, evens out small irregularities and forms one mass with the base.

Expansion gaps

The tiles expand in heat and contract in cold, so a 2–6 cm gap is left between the surface and the kerbs and around all equipment on the court. Never fix the tiles to the base in any way: without room to move they can deform permanently, lift or break.

Fencing

A fence around the court stops balls during play, keeps out unwanted visitors and vandals, and helps protect the surface from strong wind. On exposed sites, windbreak screens can be added to the fence, which also helps sports such as tennis.

Low running costs

No mowing, watering, line repainting or infill top-ups. The surface does not get sticky or hold moisture like poured rubber, so play can start right after rain. It suits new multi-sport grounds as well as the renovation of old courts at schools, sports centres and rural tourism sites.
